The year was 1996. I had been in the Navy for 2 years. I was then a 3SG, on my way to a 2SG. I was the second-in-charge of a Training Department. There were a few colleagues in the department. One of them was LCP Lam Chong Tang. On several days, I noticed he was reading a novel, and I was pretty intrigued. One day, I asked to take a look at the book, and I was hooked. That novel turned out to be Nicholas Sparks' first novel, and a hit one at that - The Notebook. As it's been 14 years since I read the story, and 6 years since I've watched the movie, I no longer remember the premise, however, it was about Allie, the wife, discovering that she had Alzheimer's and how she met her husband, Noah.
As far as I can remember, it was the first novel I had ever read that made me cry and felt emotional. Nicholas' stories always include a love and tragedy element. Since then, I've bought and read all of Nicholas Sparks' books, and when the movies were adapted after the novels, I watched all of them.
A few months ago, I read Nicholas' latest novel, The Last Song, and when I visited his site, that was how I found out Nicholas wrote the screenplay for Miley Cyrus, before writing the novel. (So, in this case, the movie was written before the novel, unlike all his other works.) A few weeks ago, when the movie was airing, I watched it. And one of the things I was surprised about, when I was watching the movie, was that there were a lot of children in the cinema, which I didn't understand. Eventually, Mable told me that it was because of Hannah Montana, an American TV series. Last night, I eventually came across Miley's song, I miss you.
I liked the tone, the musical instruments used, and the lyrics of the song. It was quite an emotional song, and it struck a chord within me. It actually made me wanted to watch Hannah Montana. And then I remembered, that I had actually came across Miley Cyrus, when I listened to her song, see you again, in Nov 2009.
