The next lesson was on Types of Love, and we watched a scene from When Harry Met Sally discussing friendship (not this one though).

In the lesson, we discussed the challenges men face in intimate relationships:

  • emotional capability
  • empathic capacity
  • sexual need

Challenges women face:

  • learnt helplessness & withholding
  • empathy for men
  • sexual and personal fulfillment
  • cultural inhibition / pressure to express sexual needs

Rubin's 3 components of Love were discussed: Attachment, Caring and Intimacy. Then, Sternberg's 3 central components of love: intimacy, passion and commitment. Additionally, we discussed the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, consisting of 4 dimensions:

  • Extraversion / Introversion (E/I)
  • Sensing / iNtuition (S/N)
  • Thinking / Feeling (T/F)
  • Judgement / Perception  (J/P)

Being lovesick - withdrawal due to addiction.

Next, triangle theory of love: Non-love, Liking, Romantic Love, Infatuation, Fatuous Love, Empty Love, Companionate Love and Consummate Love.
