Last week, while on my sabbatical (where I take my mind off work), I encountered some news about dragonfruit being contaminated or poisoned.
As I have been eating dragonfruit regularly, I sent an email to AVA to enquire about this, and got the following response:
"As the national food safety authority, the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority AVA) of Singapore regulates the safety of food, from production or point of import through to just before they enter the retail chain. All imported fresh fruits and vegetables including dragonfruits are subject to AVA's food safety system checks that includes import control, inspection, sampling and laboratory analysis with source tracing to ensure that food imported into Singapore complies with our stringent food safety standards and requirements, in line with international standards. The dragonfruits sold in Singapore are safe for consumption. Nevertheless, the public has to understand that they also have a role to play in food safety. They are encouraged to practise good hygiene and to wash their fruits and vegetables efore consumption."
With the response, I can set my mind at ease and eat the remaining dragonfruits in my fridge.
