This neighbour of mine is working in a social care environment as a therapy aide, and she wanted to take up a basic therapy aide course offered by Renci Hospital.

She's over 40, and sought out my help and my advice, because her workplace denied her request. She is willing to take no-pay leave, pay for the course on her own, if the workplace wasn't willing to grant her no-pay leave, for the course, which is a month. The workplace isn't shorthanded though.

Having heard her points, I gave her a few advices and pointed a few scenarios, and wrote to National Council of Social Service (203.126.113.128 - 203.126.113.159, inetname: NCSS-SG), in addition to Workforce Development Agency, seeking their advice.

If there are people in Singapore who denies employees their desire to upgrade their skills, how do they expect the employees to advance?
