There's a married couple who employed a maid. The maid accused the husband of molest and reported it to the police.

The husband volunteered for a lie detection test, but unfortunately, neglected to tell the officer in charged of operating the polygraph machine that he has an anxiety disorder.

The case goes to court, and the investigating officer (IO) noted that the accused failed the polygraph test, and therefore, must be guilty. The lawyer operating on behalf of the accused noted that the accused had an anxiety disorder, and produced evidence, and therefore charged that the polygraph test was invalid.

Both parties decide to compound the case. From googling, compounding a case normally meant that the accused pays the accuser a sum of money for the case to be withdrawn. Unfortunately, in Singapore, by agreeing to compound a case, it is automatically assumed that the accused is guilty of the crime that he was accused of.

Now, because there's a compounded case, the couple can no longer apply for maids.

Lesson learnt: If you have a court case, do not compound it unless you're guilty, because by compounding the case, guilt is assumed.
