Del Monte bananas

I've been eating bananas for the past few weeks. Specifically, I've been eating Del Monte bananas.

Del Monte bananas are much tastier than other bananas, and in the Del Monte banana plantation where bananas are harvested, they're treated carefully, according to this story.

I eat bananas because they contain dietary fibre, among other much needed nutrients like potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, selenium, iron and other elements.  Besides, it contains vitamins A, C, E and B6. In addition, it has pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and niacin.

Pantothenic acid detoxifies our bodies from harmful man-made compounds found in herbicides, insecticides and drugs.

Seldom known to ordinary folks, but known to biochemical students, are the chemicals tryptophan and selenium. In the event of a deficiency of selenium, signs of irritability, anxiety and depression has been known to manifest themselves.

People do strange things some times. And when they can't sleep, they turn to sleeping pills to help them achieve their desired state of slumber. Sleeping pills have been known to show side effects, such as weight gain, and causing loss or lack of attention. And the active ingredient of sleeping pills? Tryptophan! Guess what? Bananas contain tryptophan too!

Eating one, two, or three bananas in the evening after a light dinner, will help in achieving that desired state of slumber.

You can buy Del Monte bananas at your local fruit store, NTUC or Cold Storage. A bunch of 6-7 bananas cost about $1.30 to $2.

Just in case some idiot sues me:

  • I suggest that you and your readers enter `Del Monte bananas' into a google search and read a few of the stories about how Del Monte's plantations abuse their workers. You may then be less keen on adding to DM's profits.
