I was speaking with an Australian (who had lived some time in the Netherlands, and Singapore) and he observed one of the following. I contributed the rest of it based on recent events.

  1. If there's a freebie, lots of people would turn up (or hit the website until it crashes or overloads)
  2. Friends, and acquaintances meeting each other accidentally after a long interval, will stand where they are, catch up with each other and begin their conversation there and then, thus ignoring the rest of the people whom they have managed to block unknowingly. This would normally occur at a lift, an elevator, a road that is too small for more than two or three persons to pass.
  3. Parents with children would let their children stand / sit anywhere, without the consideration of others, ie, at seats at restaurants (such as McDonalds'), in the seats of MRT trains. Parents with children would allow their children to hit others, then when others' parents come and scold their children, they would defend their own children, and say something to the tune of "Why didn't you come straight to me first?"
  4. If you had gotten robbed in Singapore, people would stand around and watch the free show (it's a freebie, remember?). No one would bother to help you.Worst still, if you had fallen down, say, outside a prestigious country club, you can just dream about getting help quickly.
  5. If you're a darn bloody big shot, your underlings would block all the roads. Did you remember what you feel when you're a nobody, and that happens to you?
  6. If you're a darn bloody big shot, and somebody insignificant so much as whisper, you sue (or threaten to sue, anyway) the pants off the bloody fellow.
  7. If you make money, then you announced it to the whole bloody world. If you lose money, you don't even make so much as a whimper or whisper...
  8. If someone else make money, you would say you thought of it some decades ago, but pass up the chance.
What would you do if any of the above should happen to you someday?

What would you do if you're a civic minded person? Would you want help if you had gotten robbed, or had fallen down? What would you wish? And if you saw someone else in distress, would you help?

What would you do?
