Criticisms and praises of the Applebee's Singapore outlet...

I'd say that the service was pretty good and prompt. However, the medium rare beef steak I ordered came different from what I ordered. Half of the steak was rare, and half of the steak was well done. Huh? What was that about?

What was nicely done was after I ordered the steak and told the waitress no potato, she came back and asked me if I wanted to replace the potato with broccoli, which was a nice touch.

Another thing was the menu. It read Dessert Shooters, all at $4.80, then there were 3 items listed below, and the choc shooter was $4.80, the other 2 shooters were $7.80. When I asked the waitress to confirm the price, she went to check, came back and told me the other 2 shooters were $9.80. Well well well.... A new restaurant and already mistakes in menu pricing? Then, there was limited soup (two I think) and no onion soup???

And no coffees or teas? Only martinis, fruit punches and alcoholic drinks?

And while I was having my meal there, the staff came out and sang a birthday song to one of the other tables (I couldn't see it), which was definitely a very nice touch!

I'll return to Applebee's soon. Probably once or twice this week. Let's see how my schedule works out.

Becoming more understanding?

I am becoming more understanding in certain ways, so that's something for me to cheer myself about. Tonight, there was a couple in their late 60s, telling me their issue of being victims of harrassment.

After finishing writing the issue, instead of asking them to wait for their turn, I recognized that what they need is a listening  ear, took the time to listen, understand their issues and fears, and advise them.

And if it were not for my co-workers who came to mention that it would be their turn, the couple would still be talking to me, for nearly 75 minutes after I've finished writing down their issues.

However, something for me to improve upon is advising. That's because it is very easy for others to blame when the advice is wrongly executed, and it's a cardinal sin of counselling.

as a good long talk with a few old friends.

Dinner at Applebee's

I had heard that Applebee's arrived in Singapore about 2 months ago, and tonight, I finally went to the restaurant located near Somerset MRT by cab.

Dinner for me was a simple medium rare ribeye steak, which was supposed to be accompanied by mashed potatoes and broccoli and I had my mashed potates changed to even more broccoli.

The steak was pretty good and so was the dessert, a choc dessert shooter.

I was pretty happy to be able to enjoy Applebee's again since the last time I ate Applebee's was between Apr-May 2008 in Cupertino.

A day with new experiences...

Thursday, after the dialogue, I was asked by Yan Peng to join her today morning in looking after some autistic kids skating at East Coast Park.

So, I had to call in a cab after I couldn't get one off the streets and reached ECP around 945 am. I cycled at the ECP bicycle pathway and followed two kids separately, just in case they fell down or needed assistance. We had lunch at McDonald's and went our own ways.

I took a stroll along the ECP beach, and eventually, came upon the Ski 360 park. As I looked at the people having fun there, I decided to ask about the price, and may be try it out. After asking about the prices, I paid $64 for a 2-hour ticket. On hindsight, I should have taken the $7/round. As it was my first time doing wakeboarding, I was briefed on the safety procedures, and then away I go.

It was exhilirating, until the part when I was supposed to make a turn, and I lost my grip and had to swim to the walkway. The entire experience on the wakeboard lasted less than 1 minute, but wondering what next, and swimming to the walkway probably took me more than 5 minutes as I missed quite a few rope handles that passed by.

The second wakeboarding experience was even more comical. I lost my board within the first 2-3 seconds, and until the turn, I was surfing on my stomache. Again, I lost my grip at the turn, and it took me a while to swim to the walkway as I was slightly frightened that I couldn't make it as my muscles were pretty tired.

I sat on the walkway for quite a while catching my breath, and decided not to continue.

All in all, I think my actual wakeboard experience was less than a total of 2 minutes.

I took a cab to town, had a relaxing massage followed by dinner at Esplanade, went to HMV, bought Belinda Carlisle's The Collection album and headed home.

Look at what's happened to me...

... and then there were times when I forgot myself, laughed so hard that my lips bled because it was stretched too much....believe it or not, it's just me...

Feeling so tired, wishing to sleep more, yet I can't. I have to get to work.
