WARNING!!! Oriental Travel Pte Ltd @ Wheelock Place

  • Comments 25

Went to Borders with my partner yesterday. After a while, I felt hungry, and was on my way to have lunch with my partner, when I was approached by a kid (he's 20 years old), who's working for Oriental Travel Pte Ltd or Orient Travel Pte Ltd.

In short, we opened two lucky draws, and won 2 movie tickets and a digital camera (turns out to be a mini digital camera, actually worth between US$2 to US$50, when I searched on the Internet much later), but we have to attend a presentation lasting at least 75 minutes. Qualifying candidates must earn above a certain figure, have VISA and must be a couple.

So, the presentation went on for more than 75 minutes. A young girl talked to us, and asked what our favourite destinations are, how much we spent on our holidays, etc. The packages are fantastic! By being a member, you can save up to a few thousand per tour. When we asked for the price, the young girl refuses to say, and the manager came over. Even then, the manager didn't disclose the price, but wrote down on a piece of paper the cost of the membership. TO BE A MEMBER, YOU HAVE TO PAY ABOUT $20,000 to $30,000. 50% on that day, and 50% in under 2 weeks. And note, the price is tailored to the answers given in your survey.

And if you don't sign up on the day itself, you must pay much more later! Being a smart person, I said no, we've seen enough and left, with our 2 movie tickets and that small digital camera, which is about the same size as the current Mini VISA!

When I got back to my place, I checked up on the Internet, and came across this link. Basically, it warned people about joining Oriental Travel, because they're cheats! Here's another link. And general blacklisting of companies, here. In this list, the following companies are in Singapore:

  • Emperor Resorts International
  • Interval Resorts Network
  • LRD Consultants
  • Oriental Travel
  • Regency Leisure Department
  • Universal Privilege
  • World Resorts

So, I thought, I better blog about this, so that even if other links are dead for some reason, here's another post. Be forewarned! Do not sign up with Oriental Travel Pte Ltd located at Wheelock Place.

Blog - Comment List
  • Let me add to this list of very persuasve and fradulent shops;

The "PANASONIC" ( The shop's real name, I forgot, But you can recognise the BIG LETTERS " PANASONIC" in the sign board of this shop) in SIM LIM square on the second floor (Level 2, near to the staircase).

I was palmed off a Video camera with 300 S$ 'discount' (but actualy at 400 to 500 S$ premium than neighbouring shops).
I could not pursue the case because my friend, for whom I bought, had departed by the time I knew of the fraud, along with camera and receipts.

  • Thanks for your input, CT.

In addition, imagine forking out $20,000 (50%) on sign-up day and another 50% within 2 weeks.

Then imagine trying to get the promised cruise, but not getting it. And contractually, you can't do anything about it, since contractually, they can substitute. So, if you sign up, your money will go down the drain, actually.
  • Well... I've just received a call from them!! Talking so much about giving a free $1000 travel voucher with no strings attached.
The lady on the phone told me that they are able to give this free voucher becos they do not spend on advertising but by calling up people.
She kept asking me when am I and my wife free to go down to their office, to attend a 60-90 mins presentation. The more I hear the more suspicious I get.
So I did a quick search on the net and found your website!! Thanks so much for the heads-up!

In fact, I've been thru one such presentation before, by LGM marketing or something like that. It's also a holiday travel kind of scam.
  • I have a similiar call today of $1000 travel brochure with no string attached + a digital camera. Similiar statement that they are able to do this by not spending on advertisement. Try to sell on line booking but when ask for the web site address, the lady use ISO procedure to excuse herself from giving (Can you see me laughing?) She highlighted only 25 couples can be invited per day. Then I wonder how the company survive with $25,000 give away everyday and can still run an expensive office in Orchard. Finally as the last resort, she mentioned this offer will not happen to us for the next 5 years as their list is long. Lucky me, I am sure this Company would be around by then......
  • Just received a call from them and they used the same tactic....was about to go tomorrow when I stumbled upon your warning site...Thank God for you guys...Now we have decided to forgo the presentation.....

    J & J
  • Please dont go.
we went -> signed up -> now regretting...
  • Hi guys,

I would like to know specifically what the facts are about this company and their product that makes it a scam.

It sounds like everyone is skeptical. A freind of mine went and they received a Sony Cybershot, $1000 travel vouchers, accomodation in greece or egypt and stay in andaman resorts, all in contract.

D&Y > May I know why are you guys regretting? Buyer's remorse or something terrible happened?

Hope you guys can help me out as I have also received the call. Thanks!

  • hi D,

If u have the money - go ahead. Membership is not cheap. 5 figures $. Accommodation listed are all 5Stars. Regretted coz did not really consider if it is worth the money to "invest" in.
The Freebies (eg:Sony low end cybershot) are true if u sign up. else is a downgradded version.

  • Has anyone really tried out Oriental Travel's Gold Crown Resorts Services? I too attended the presentation and was tempted to sign up but the price was just too steep (they quoted me something like 17K!) for me. But I am curious whether anyone's really gone on one of their arranged tours.

C, have you gone on any trips yet?
