Palm numbness: Carpal tunnel syndrome?

I've been experiencing some palm numbness, and it has me concerned.

I'm wondering if this could be carpal tunnel syndrome, and if so, what causes it.

This comes at an inopportune moment as I'm still dancing with Google.
